Sea Turtles

1)  What's that? It's a turtle.
What kind of turtle? It's a loggerhead.
Does it live in Florida? Yes, It's native to Florida.
They're cute.

2)   What kind is this?
It's a Green Sea Turtle.
Is it native to Florida? Yes, it is.
Do you want to see turtles? Yes, I want to see turtles.
What are those fish doing? They're 'cleaning' the turtle, I think.

 

3)  What's this turtle doing?
It's swimming.Sea turtles are good swimmers.
How long can they swim? They can swim for hours.

4)  What's that? Run! It's a monster.
No, it's a fossil of a giant turtle.
That turtle was very big.
Is that the turtles girlfriend?



5)   Here's the mother turtle laying the eggs.
 She will lay 50 - 200 eggs for one nest.
What does she do first? First she digs a hole.
Then she lays the eggs and covers the hole.
How long for the eggs to hatch?
The eggs take about 2 months.


6)  The babies have hatched.
Young turtles are called hatch-lings.
Where are they going? They're going to the ocean.

7)   Do they hatch at night?
Yes, here come the babies at night.
Where are they going? They run to the ocean.


8)  What's this? It's a sea turtle.
No, it's not.     
Is this turtle native to Florida?        Yes, it is.
What's it called?   This is the Gopher Turtle.

9)
What do sea turtles eat? Shrimp? Everybody likes shrimp.
The sea turtle eats sea grass.
Do you eat sea grass?


10)
What's this? It's a marked sea turtle nest.
A sea turtle nest? Can we get closer?
No, stay away.
