Hognose Snake

The picture below is of a King Cobra.
This snake is not native to Florida.
It's native to India.
If it's not a Florida snake,
why are you writting about it?
I will tell you why.
The snake below is a Hognose snake.
It's native to Florida.
When threatened this snake will mimic a Cobra.
What's mimic mean?
The Hognose will imitate the behavior of a
King Cobra to scare off attackers.
Unlike the Cobra, the Hognose isn't venomous.
But it wants you to think it is.

That's not all the Hognose does.
It also plays dead.
The snake in this picture isn't dead.
Once again, he wants you to think he is.
The Hognose will also release a foul odor.
This snake has an interesting way of defending itself.
However, I have a question. How did the snake learn this?
There are no Cobras in Florida.
What do you think?

Who's that guy in the green shirt?    That's Ponce de Leon.
Who are the other people?   They are Florida Native Americans.
What are they talking about?  They are talking about fishing.
Why's this important?  That man discovered Florida.

It was April 2nd, 1513 when Ponce de Leon

Did they know the native language?
I wonder how they communicated.
Ponce named the 'island' La Florida.
