Hurricane Pushes Oil

     Hurricane Alex strikes Texas.
It's pushing the oil onto the beaches.
As you can see, it's making a big mess.

    Clean up time.
It takes a lot of effort to clean up the oil.
    The cleaning goes very slow.

Penalty Kicks

I'm sorry that Japan lost.
But the team had a good run.
I hate penalty kicks.
The game shouldn't be decided this way.

Here's a couple of unknown birds.

Trout for Breakfast

That's a picture of a trout.(マス)
It's similar to the 2 fish I caught this past weekend.
I ate one of the fish and I froze the other.
I cut some slices of meat off the fish and ate it as sashimi.
It was very good. Of course, I had soy sauce with it.
There was only one small bone in the meat.
I breaded the rest of the fish and fried it.
Sea trout is a very good fish for eating.
The sea trout is a member of the Salmon family of fish.
Yes, it's closely related to the salmon.
There are several species of trout both salt and fresh water types.
The trout is found world-wide.
I used live bait to catch the trout.
The fish was in shallow water about 2 meters deep.
This fish only bites live bait.
It was good to catch the fish.
I'm living off the land.

Hi, How are you?

This is a nice white flower I found
                          while searching for the butterfly.
The butterfly picture was difficult to take.
The butterfly kept moving and flying around.
It landed and I was able to take its' picture.
I'm searching now for the Zebra Longwing butterfly.
This is the official Florida butterfly.

Don't mess with the turtles

Florida state police arrested 2 Melbourne, Florida residents for disturbing a turtles' nest. The turtle nest was clearly marked and roped off. The 2 residents removed the barrier to place their chairs and sit. They removed all signs of the nest. Florida Wildlife officials said, " They wiped away everything, including raking the sand." The charges against the residents are 3rd degree felonies, with possible prison time and fines.

This is what a protected turtle nest looks like.
If you see this, avoid it and absolutely do not touch it.

Atlantic Ocean

Welcome to the Atlantic Ocean.
This is the world's 2nd largest ocean.
This picture is of the cold North Atlantic.

From north to south the Atlantic is a long ocean.
We can divide the Atlantic into North and South.

                                          This picture is from Florida.
The Gulf Stream, a very big current,
                                            brings warm water to Florida.

The moon rises over the Atlantic.
The movement of the moon affects the tides of the ocean.

The waves are high in this picture.
The weather of the Atlantic influences Florida.
Most days, there is a nice seabreeze blowing.
Sometimes, hurricanes come to Florida.

This picture shows the major oceans of the world.
According to this map there are only 5 true oceans.

This picture is from the North Atlantic.
In the front, we can see a 'killer whale.'
In the background, there is an iceberg.

OK, back to Florida where the water is warmer.
This is Cocoa Beach Pier.
It's a famous tourist attraction.

This is another picture of Cocoa Pier.
Look to the left and you can see surfers.

This is called the Sargasso Sea.
Sargasso is a type of seaweed.
Large areas of the ocean can be covered with the grass.

This is a picture of a small area of Sargasso Sea.
Much bigger areas have been reported.
Christopher Columbus sighted the sargasso sea
while traveling to the new world.

This picture shows the seagrass provides an environment
for many animals.

This is the Bermuda Triangle.
It's also known as the Devil's Triangle.
Many strange things have happened here.
Boats and airplanes have mysteriously disappeared.
Are the stories true or false?

St Augustine Florida

St Augustine is the oldest city in Florida.
In fact, it's the oldest post-Columbian building in the Americas.
The Americas - include North,Central and South America.
The picture below is of the city hall.

This is the entrance to the 'Alligator Park.'
For a small fee, we can see many alligaotrs.
Don't forget to stop at the gift shop.

I like this picture.
It was taken in the St. Augustine area.

Here's the old Spanish fort.
It's called Castillo San Mar.
It was built in 1565.
That's the year St. Augustine was founded.
It was Ponce de Leon who first came to this area.
He discovered Florida in 1513.

This is the bridge going to the city.
There are a lot of old buildings here.
It's an interesting city.
I had a chance to visit it once.
Someday, I want to go to St. Augustine again.
Who is St. Augustine named after? Does anyone know?
It's a small city.
The population is only about 12,000.
